Renewing? Cyber Essentials has changed.
If you last certified before 27 April 2026, your previous assessment used an earlier question set.
The current assessment uses Danzell, so some questions and requirements may look different this time.

6. Submit & get certified
Submit your completed assessment for review. Once you meet the requirements, you’ll receive your Cyber Essentials certificate.

Once you’ve passed the Cyber Essentials self-assessment, we’ll help you prepare for the independent technical assessment of your devices and security controls to achieve Cyber Essentials Plus.

Questions before you start
What happens if we do not pass first time?
Don’t worry if you don’t pass your initial assessment. An additional submission is included at no extra cost, giving you the opportunity to address the feedback and try again. Our team can help you understand what needs attention and guide you through the next steps before you resubmit.
Can my outsourced IT provider help?
Yes. This is very common. Whoever manages your IT, whether that’s an internal team or an outsourced IT provider, can be involved in the process and help provide the technical information needed for your assessment. Our team can work with you and your IT contacts to help you through the requirements.
How long does certification take?
Timescales vary depending on your organisation and how prepared you are. Cyber Essentials has around 70 self-assessment questions, and while returning applicants may be more familiar with the process, each assessment needs to be completed against the current requirements.
If it’s your first time, or you need information from your IT team or provider, allow time to gather everything you need.
For Cyber Essentials Plus, the technical assessment will usually take place over a day. You may pass first time, or additional time may be needed to remediate any issues and complete retesting.

What changed with Danzell?
Danzell is the latest Cyber Essentials question set, introduced for new assessments from 27 April 2026. The core Cyber Essentials controls remain, but requirements have been updated in areas including MFA, cloud services, security updates and scoping.
